Zusammenfassung:
In this paper, a gust generator is characterized and implemented in a low-speed wind tunnel for the purpose of wing gust loads analysis and evaluation of gust load alleviation functions. Therefore, a gust generator setup consisting of two individually controlled guide vanes at the beginning of the test section were implemented into a low-speed wind tunnel. In this paper, the generated 1-cos shaped gusts are characterized for different maximum guide vane deflection angles and frequencies, wind tunnel air speeds, and at different locations downstream of the gust generator. Based on these parameters, an empirical equation is derived, which maps a required vane deflection to a desired gust profile at a given position within the wind tunnel test section. In addition to the typical vertical wind gusts produced by parallel deflections of the guide vanes, the effect of counter-directed guide vane deflections were investigated. Thereby, the aim was to temporarily change the airspeed without changing the stream direction. Two different measurement systems are used to observe the flow field downstream of the gust generator. The first measurement system is an air data probe for speed, pressure, temperature and flow angle measurement. The second measurement system is a particle tracking system, able to measure the flow field within a large section at once.
