The Interaction of Tip Leakage Flow with Incoming Flow in a Compressor Cascade

Zusammenfassung: Tip leakage flow has a very strong influence on the flow field in axial compressors. It is disadvantageous to the efficiency and mass flow stability. The interaction of the tip leakage flow with the incoming flow in a linear compressor cascade is investigated on a water channel. Tip clearance width, angle of incidence, and Reynolds number are varied systematically. To study the flow, we considered the movement of inked fluid elements in space and time. A detailed research of the area of interaction is carried out under stable and unstable flow conditions.
