To maintain an energy-optimal flight state while conducting stationary observation with a tilt-wing UAV, the aircraft flies a circular path around the observation point. Selecting the appropriate flight altitude is crucial: the target object must remain fully visible at all times, yet the altitude must be low enough to ensure high resolution. Additionally, the radius of the circle must be determined. It has been shown that shifting the center of the circle relative to the observation point allows for a reduction in flight altitude. Therefore, this paper presents an algorithm to determine the minimum flight altitude and the optimal circle center relative to the observation point. The process begins by assuming a fixed radius for the circular flight path while accounting for the aircraft´s flight characteristics and operational limits, current wind conditions, and the specifications of the camera and gimbal. The algorithm operates iteratively, reducing the aircraft´s altitude until continuous observation of the target object is just barely maintained. To lower the altitude further, the center of the circle is shifted relative to the observation point. Minimizing the altitude in this way enables maximum resolution.
