The freight demands in remote areas of the Canada North are served by a limited range of transportation services. This paper outlines the availability of transportation alternatives in northern Canada with reference to the specific limitations and costs of each mode. The paper then addresses some specific needs of mining, forestry, energy and remote communities. The paper concludes with a discussion of the Canadian market for airships, and why it is an attractive market for cargo airships to begin operations.
