Titel:

Autonomous Cargo Airship Operations System

Autor(en):
J.K. Block
Zusammenfassung:
This paper describes the potential and requirements of a fleet of unmanned autonomous cargo airships operating in areas with tenuous infrastructure but under pressing need for substantial cargo exchange. The analysis emphasizes the necessity of a thorough coordination of ground systems for UAV-type monitoring and control, weather forecast and computerized strategic operations schemes. For economic and ecological operation, only hydrogen shall be used as both lifting and fuel gas. In combination with liquefied methane as an ecologically and economically desirable fuel, effective aerostatic equilibrium in flight can be achieved by means of controlled mixture. The selection of suitable airship configurations depends on the type of cargo, the capabilities w.r.t. cargo and/or ballast exchange, as well as on the environment of the selected flight routes.
