Titel:

RIGID PLUS: A Novel Airship Design with Improved Handling

Autor(en):

Zusammenfassung:
Airships have the potential to fulfill the worldwide demand of an alternative transport system for goods and produce, covering existing land and sea routes, as well as remote, less accessible areas. The objective of this manuscript is to propose a novel rigid airship design, which will be easier to build and more maneuverable to fly. This will be accomplished by a new structural design that uses robotics to preconstruct individual cells, and an assembly cradle that lines up these cells into a geodesic pattern, thus decreasing workforce, time and costs for hull construction. Cycloidal propulsion, for both low speed maneuvering and cruising speed, combined with vectored thrust rear units will improve landing and cargo exchange. A keel type interlocking cargo system associated with a retractable internal docking mast will reduce shipment exchange times. The novel design, improved handling, and a workable cargo transfer system will make this rigid airship a viable solution for freight and even passenger carrying transport system in the future, while minimizing environmental impact.
