A small unmanned helium airship was designed and constructod by Lindstrano Technologies Ltd (LTL) in 2003 for the Spanish Ministry of Defence. It carried a 42kg classified surveillance payload and its official task was to observe the pollution in a river in the Basque country. After 4 years of continuous use this airship came to the attention of BAE Systems who viewed it as a successful low cost surveillance vehicle complimenting their fixed wing and rotary wing UAV fleet. BAE Systems purchased the rights for this airship which will now have a BAE systems payload and at the 2008 Farnborough Air Show this product was launched.
