This paper presents the results of the analysis of the Descent and Landing strategy of the Phase A1 of the NEXT Lunar Lander mission. Different types of strategies have been analysed for soft landing (e.g. minimum time/propellant optimised descent and landing, MSR-like descent and landing with vertical or quasi-vertical approach in the last descent kilometres, Apollo-like descent and landing with constant or quasi-constant Flight Path Angle along the trajectory from High Gate till touch-down). The proposed guidance scheme has to deal with different purposes: optimisation of cost function (landed mass) with several constraints, such as autonomy with respect to the target landing site, hazard avoidance, replanning of landing site and navigation uncertainties during the trajectory.
