This paper provides a summary of the findings of the Analysis of Lunar Exploratory Robotic Tasks for Safety (ALERTS) team project of the International Space University, consisting of students from diverse disciplinary cultural and professional backgrounds. It examines systems of assessing safety, through astronaut-robotic synergy and safety regulations and standards. It further discusses the possibility of international cooperation advocating for the establishment and harmonization of safety regulations and standards for future lunar/interplanetary missions. Examined also are the European initiatives and especially the role played the European regional cooperation in enhancing a global safety policy.
