The Impact of Stakeholder Analysis on Architecture Selection for Space Exploration

Zusammenfassung:
We leverage the notion of stakeholder networks to study the possible mechanisms by which stakeholder considerations might conceivably impact an architecture design process for lunar exploration. Using NASA as a case study, we derive eight principles: 1) To analyze benefit for architecture selection, one needs a clear conception of where the architecture stops, and the design starts 2) Stakeholders who care about implementation will be easier to segment off, because their concerns relate to a subset of the architecture 3) Stakeholders will always have an opinion about the entire architecture ? managing stakeholder value means constraining their interaction to the variables most directly provide benefit to them. 4) Not all benefit flows will enable differentiation between architectures 5) Creditor relationships are stronger for multi-phase projects 6) Debtor relationships incentivize the tracking of value through the design process 7) The balance of importance informs the power in stakeholder relationships 8) Overscoping stakeholder objectives for the architecture makes it difficult to track benefit to stakeholders through the architecting process
