Titel:

Structural Design and Dimensioning of the Lunar Lander

Zusammenfassung:
The Lunar Landing project deals with an unmanned automatic landing on the moon to place a payload without return. The spacecraft performs a soft landing using a propulsive system for descent. The launch of the Lunar Lander spacecraft is foreseen with the Ariane 5 able to inject 7 metric tons to the moon. Such a mission requires a challenging light weight design. The structural concept applying a CFRP design and the structural dimensioning of the spacecraft will be presented. The spacecraft is designed to withstand the loads and environment of the launch from earth and the descent to the moon, especially due to thrust and landing impact. The landing gear has been designed to absorb the kinetic energy at touch down including the consideration of different horizontal velocities and angels. Touch down simulations have been performed to optimize the landing impact. The landing gear was dimensioned to ensure sufficient landing stability. It is deployable for transport into the orbit. The kinematics and the mechanism for the deployment have been investigated and will be presented.
