Titel:

The Effect of Actuator Geometry on the Performance of Synthetic Jets

Zusammenfassung:
Numerical simulations have been undertaken to investigate the effects of changing orifice depth (h), cavity height (H) and diameter (Dc) on the magnitude of vortex circulation of circular synthetic jets. It is found that at the same stroke length the normalized vortex circulation decreases rapidly with an increasing h when h/Do is less than 2 and it approaches a constant close to 1 when h/Do increases further. A similar but more gradual change in the normalized vortex circulation is also observed with an increasing H. When the stroke length is kept the same, the effect of changing Dc is negligible. The time-averaged exit velocity profiles and the velocity vector fields in the orifice duct and the cavity are examined to help the interpretation of the above results. The finding from this study provides useful information for optimizing the design of SJAs.
