Titel:

Detached-Eddy Simulation for Synthetic Jets in Cross-flows Using Dynamic Grid

Zusammenfassung:
Synthetic jets are zero-mass jets with potential for effective flow controls. When located in a high Reynolds number flow around an air vehicle surface, the synthetic jet interacts with the cross flow and the incoming turbulent boundary layer in a complicated manner, resulting in eddies with a very broad range of length scales. In this paper, a detached-eddy simulation method with a dynamic grid technique is applied to calculate 3D synthetic jet flows, which makes it possible to simulate the oscillating movement of the diaphragms/pistons in the synthetic jet cavities in an accurate way to cope with the varying turbulent length scales and the unsteady motions of the boundaries. Comparisons between simulations and some available experimental data are presented.
