Titel:

Validation and Optimisation of 3D Bumps for Transonic Wing Drag Reduction

Autor(en):

Zusammenfassung:
A detailed computational study of transonic flow over 3D bumps in a wind tunnel, on an un-swept wing and a swept wing are reported. The validation exercise highlights the importance of matching simulation and experimental boundary conditions. The design optimisations of both the 2D and 3D bumps and a detailed investigation into the operation ranges of both the shock control bumps are presented. The results show that 3D bumps outperform 2D bumps in terms of drag reduction at a design point and more importantly in terms of the operational range for varying lift conditions.
