Titel:

Large Eddy Simulation of Aircraft Wake Vortices on a Hybrid Grid

Autor(en):

Zusammenfassung:
Large-Eddy Simulations of a pair of counter-rotating wake vortices in quiescent air are presented. The dissipation is entirely provided by the numerical schemes and grids since no subgrid scale model is employed. Two numerical schemes are investigated for this purpose: an upwind scheme based on Oshers Riemann solver and a MUSCL reconstruction, and a central difference scheme with artificial dissipation. The grids employed are unstructured, either entirely composed of tetrahedra or hybrid with a structured core. The numerical results show that both the discretisation schemes and the grid refinement and topology have a strong influence on the amount of dissipation generated and hence on the accuracy of the simulations.
