Titel:

CFD Analysis on Different Wing-tip Devices - Aeroelastic Wing Deformation and Half-model Effect

Zusammenfassung:
The objective of this paper is to improve the previous CFD results analyzing three tip-devices (clean Kuechemann-tip, tip-fence and large winglet) using aeroelastic wing deformations and half model considerations. This work has been done as part of the European project M-DAW (Modeling and Design of Advanced Wing tip devices) [1 and 2]. These improvements are proven to be necessary as part of the CFD code validation since the CFD code will be used further in design and assessment of a new/enhanced wing-tip device which is the final goal of M-DAW. The paper will discuss CFD simulations and the obtained results both before and after improvements. The results have been validated against the experiments done in ETW (European Transonic Wind tunnel) and DNW-KKK (Cryogenic Wind Tunnel Cologne) wind tunnels. After implementation of the necessary corrections, the CFD results are in much better agreement with the experiments.
