Zusammenfassung:
The most popular tool to predict laminar-turbulent transition is the eN method, which has been widely used and calibrated for subsonic and transonic flows. However information concerning transition prediction in supersonic conditions is very scarce, at least for three-dimensional configurations. This paper describes basic experiments carried out in the R1Ch wind tunnel at Mach 3 in order to build a transition database for several simple models. Emphasis is placed on threedimensional cases where crossflow instability plays the dominant role. It is demonstrated that the N factor at transition is correlated with the surface polishing of the model at the critical abscissa, i.e. in the leading edge region.
