Zusammenfassung:
A study of synthetic jet-turbulent boundary layer interaction, using PIV as the flow measurement method, was performed. Single and twin streamwise actuators were considered, at a downstream distance of 15 orifice diameters. The results for the single actuator showed the existence of a counter rotating vortex pair evident for part of the cycle, demonstrating the coherent, periodic nature of the flow. The results provide evidence for the hairpin vortex flow model, in which the downstream flow is comprised of discreet stretched vortex rings, with the streamwise aligned sections of the ring contributing to flow control. The twin-SJA configuration showed structures of larger extent than the single jet configuration; the influence of variable input signal phase could be seen in terms of vortex core position.
