Titel:

A Closer Look at the Elastic Streamwise Camber Deformation of Swept and Unswept Wings

Zusammenfassung:
This paper provides further insight into the elastic streamwise camber deformation at the aerodynamic surface as it relates to the method of structural analysis: full finite element structural models and stick models. One swept and one unswept wing are fully evaluated using both types of structural analysis models. The aerodynamic derivatives factoring method is used with the Doublet Lattice Method in order to descramble the general elastic modal motions at the aerodynamic surface into five simpler and always the same components: heave, streamwise torsion, control surface rotation, tab rotation and elastic streamwise camber deformation. Detailed descrambled modal displacements and corresponding descrambled aerodynamic forces and moments distributions are examined. The effect on calculated flutter speeds of keeping or discarding the elastic streamwise camber deformation at the aerodynamic surface is evaluated for the swept and unswept wings, for both structural model types.
