Titel:

Material Forces as a Novel Criterion for Crack-Turning in Stiffened Structures

Zusammenfassung:
This paper presents results of numerical computations of the crack-path in stiffened structures by means of the finite element method (ABAQUS is used as FE Solver) and material forces. After a first short introduction of material forces the model, which was examined, is explained in detail. The crack-path predictions for several different load-cases are shown and compared with the crack-path predictions via the maximum tangential stress criterion (mts) and the Kll=0 (kII0) criterion, which are both independently computed by the fea-solver. The results show that the crack-path, which is computed by material forces, correlates with the results from the two other methods. The possible benefits of using the material force method are discussed.
