A Statistical Processing for S-N Curves Tests

The statistical processing of S-N curve tests answers to the ability to compare materials while including the scatter phenomenon and derive from the experimental observations safe design curves corresponding to given levels of failure probability. This paper presents a new processing method running a Monte-Carlo simulation in order to build the confidence curves around the mean S-N curve but also the B-value curve, corresponding to a 10 % failure probability. A validation of the method and a parametric influence study are also presented. The obtained results are then compared to the B-value curve obtained by an homogeneous shift based on the B-value tabulated knockdown factors and shows that this standard method may be non-conservative.
