Zusammenfassung:
The need for the P-3 fleet sustainability provided a challenge to evaluate and identify the exact status of the fatigue life expended. P-3C Service Life Assessment Program (SLAP) develops the data necessary for the fleet management. This technical paper presents the progress and outcome of a multi-discipline program, completed by Lockheed under contract from the USN with active technical participation from several international partners. The programs comprehensive approach accurately identified P-3 fleet operational usage, refined external and internal loads assessments, more representative repeated loads criteria, redesign of critical sub-components with improved corrosion resistant materials and improved design details, and full scale fatigue tests (FSFT) of all the primary components. This paper also presents, a tentative service life management plan, using SLAP developed data, to sustain the fleet through identification and implementation of Inspection Compliance Requirements (ICR) and Time Compliance Requirements (TCR) that provides a timeline for component replacement and or retirement.
