Titel:

Large Eddy Simulation of Turbulent Jets and Progress Towards A Subgrid Scale Noise Model

Zusammenfassung:
A Mach 0.9 turbulent jet at a Reynolds number of 72,000 (based on jet diameter and velocity) has been studied using large eddy simulation. Turbulence measurements in the self-similar region of the jet agree with existing experimental and numerical data. Far field predictions of the radiated noise exhibit OASPL values approximately 4-5 dB in excess of previous findings. The cause of the discrepancy is linked to the lack of three dimensionality introduced at the inlet, resulting in highly coherent (in terms of azimuthal correlations) disturbances which subsequently break down at the end of the potential core. These observations are supported by existing experimental evidence. Progress on on-going work in subgrid scale noise model development is briefly discussed.
