The rationale to see cabin environment as an important human factor is given by the hostile environment outside of the aircraft during flight conditions. The analysis of cabin environment factors is limited in this paper to the main design requirements for air conditioning systems, i.e. air contaminants, thermal comfort and cabin pressure. Measurement results as well as calculations are shown and related to system designs of Airbus aircraft. Generally speaking, the cabin environment requirements have been considered to support crew performance criteria as well as passenger comfort. Know how gaps are identified for the perception of the cabin environment by unhealthy, very young or elderly aircraft occupants.
