Titel:

Modelling the Thinking Process of an Aerospace Design Organisation

Zusammenfassung:
A new project management method (PROMISE, PROject Management for the Implementation of Systems Engineering) has been prototyped. This method offers the potential to model, understand and manage the iterative activities that are typical of an aerospace project. The underlying network on which the method is based allows all the characteristics and interactions of activities to be captured. Hence the model provides an authentic representation of how an organisation "thinks". Experiments can be performed which allow the thinking process to be improved so that, for instance, designs can be produced more quickly or more efficiency. A prototype software tool has been produced which includes a GA-based search algorithm which optimises the sequence of design activities in order to minimise overall cost. The prototype tool provides all the usual project management functions including resource loading, activity sequences, cost data, timing data. The tool will shortly undergo trials within a major aerospace company to evaluate its effectiveness.
