Zusammenfassung:
ooking into the long-term future is a prerequisite for the planning of near and medium term projects. As experienced in the past and presence, the forecasting of the evolution and development of space projects and activities in the long-term is a complex and challenging process. It will not only be determined by scientific, technological and technical rationales and criteria, but will also be strongly influenced from changes of priorities set by society, by political decision makers and trends in ecology, as well as by financial constraints. Evaluating alternative scenarios and development trends will depend on the kind and weighting of the criteria and the viewpoint of the evaluator, i.e. evaluating from an optimistic or a pessimistic point of view. This paper discusses the methodologies of future space scenario definition, reviews the current situation and the potential path of evolution, considers the visions of future space activities, summarizes the known long-term plans of the major space agencies, presents major lines of possible evolution and gives recommendations from an industrial point of view.
