Titel:

Growing Volumes of Data - The Need for Less Human Interpretation

Autor(en):
P. Waller
Zusammenfassung:
Ever-increasing quantities of data are being collected for an ever-increasing range of analyses. To date, the results of defined analysis processes are generally interpreted by experts who propose appropriates actions. The success of each analysis task is judged from a good presentation of a statistical manipulation of the results. As the volume of data to be handled increases, it is becoming increasingly cost-ineffective to employ the small numbers of such experts that do exist, on such routine matters. There is a need for the introduction of intelligent analyses so the experts can concentrate on "teaching" the analysis processes their knowledge. This paper reviews the methods currently employed for analysis and presentation, and proposes areas to which intelligent analyses could profitably be directed. Both the action - generating and monitoring aspects of analysis are considered.
