The AV8B/GRMK5 Engine Monitoring System currently in service with the US Marine corps and the UK RAF was primarily designed as an "on-condition" maintenance system for the Rolls Royce Pegasus engine. On-board processing is used to generate "life counts" from which the life of the engine components is determined. This paper presents a brief background to Engine Monitoring and discusses the system used on the Harrier and AV8B aircraft. At the end of the paper, we look at the lessons learned and provide our conclusions.
