Since the first Stewart Hughes/Teledyne Controls civil helicopter FDR/HUMS was installed in 1991, considerable experience has been gained from medium and large aircraft operating in civil and, more recently, military fleets. It is recognised that the requirements for smaller helicopters differ. This paper discusses how, based on experience gained, HUMS technology can be made available to the small-to-medium twin-engine helicopters in these fleets.
