Sound Transmission of Finite Double-panel Partitions with Sound Absorbing Material and Panel Stiffeners

Zusammenfassung:
This paper describes the sound transm1ss10n properties of finite double-panel partitions at low frequencies. Three configurations are discussed : a double-panel partition with two flat aluminium panels, one with the cavity fully padded with sound absorbing material and one with stiffeners on one panel. The sound reduction properties are assessed by comparing the radiated intensity of a single panel with the radiated intensity of the considered double-panel partitions. The typical sound reduction curves of infinite non-flexible double-panel partitions are found back, including coincidence and mass-air-mass resonance phenomena. However, a resonant-like reduction is superimposed on this curves. Hereby, the efficiently radiating (odd, odd) panel modes cause a substantial decrease of the sound reduction, which is considerably cancelled by padding the cavity with sound absorbing material. Stiffening one panel seems to result in a substantial increase of the sound reduction.
