Titel:

Recent Advances in Understanding Automobile Aerodynamic Noise

Autor(en):

Zusammenfassung:
Automobile aerodynamic noise is a field that has grown very rapidly in the past ten years. Automobile manufacturers and independent researchers have developed a better understanding of the mechanisms of automobile aerodynamic noise production and have developed methods for the measurement of automobile aerodynamic noise, some of which were adapted from aeronautical applications. In this paper, the fundamentals of automobile aerodynamic noise and its relation to automobile aerodynamic drag are reviewed. The sources of aerodynamic noise on a typical passenger car are explained. Then, the many recent advances in the measurement of aerodynamic noise are presented. Finally, a prediction of an idealized case of automobile aerodynamic noise is detailed. These advances will help enable automobile manufacturers to design quieter vehicles.
