Titel:

A Comparison of Several Particle Image Velocimetry Systems

Autor(en):
C.E. Willert
Zusammenfassung:
In the aerodynamic and hydrodynamic research fields many different implementations of the particle image velocimetry (PIV) technique exist, each with ist own advantages and drawbacks. Several PIV systems are described herein with emphasis on how each systems features were utilized optimally. The comparison between the systems is intended to highlight important aspects such as illumination and acquisition techniques, seeding considerations, spatial resolution, dynamic range, and methods of data recovery. The ideal PIV system required for todays wind tunnel applications combines the advantages of the various systems providing high spatial resolution, on-line image viewing, and fast data recovery. Present efforts in realizing such a system are briefly discussed.
