Titel:

The Potential of Co-Operative Air-/Ground A TC System

Zusammenfassung:
The increase in air traffic over the past years and the forecasted demand for the next 10 to 15 years require a review of the concept of air traffic control (ATC) operation. The present day ATC system is not always able to cope with the demand and in some areas at certain times the ATC organisations are applying restrictions in order to avoid an overload of the systems. Despite these facts, representatives of A TC organisations promise that the future system will be no limiting factor for the evolution of air traffic. What is the basis for such optimism? What are the changes envisaged for the future systems, which will enable the providers of ATC systems to double the productivity of the ATC system within 10 to 15 years? The key word is "co-operative". Co-operative Air-/Ground ATM systems will offer the required improvements. In my presentation I will describe the objectives of a cooperative ATM system, summarise the concepts under development and identify some aspects for improvements. The potential of Co-operative Air-/Ground ATM Systems is the possibility to develop and implement the system and it is also the power to realise the necessary improvements.
