Zusammenfassung:
A preliminary investigation of the acoustic characteristics for a diffuser / test cell configuration has been made. The study is composed of two parts, a numerical approach and an experimental effort in a scaled model of an actual full scale facility. The predictions obtained by the computational model have been compared with the experimentally determined geometry resonant frequencies and with the frequency spectra while flow is established. The predicted values for the frequencies agree well with the scaled model experimental results. They also agree with the observations made in the full scale facility. However, the amplitudes measured indicate that the scaled model has not fully reproduced the phenomenon which may have been observed in the full scale test cell, since the amplitudes are not large enough to represent a strong resonant interaction with the jet at either or all of the critical frequencies.
