ICAO has put forward a proposal (Chapter 10 in Annex 16) for a new method of measuring light propeller-driven aircraft. The most important changes from the present procedure which is laid down in Chapter 6 in Annex 16 is that the microphone is placed on the ground and that the aircraft is evaluated under climb condition. In this paper a series of measurements is reported using both methods for the same type of aircraft. Based on these measurements a final proposal has been put forward for a method of obtaining a very high degree of accuracy by using four simple independent measurement stations when making measurements for aircraft certification purposes.
