Titel:

On the Sensitivity of a Slit-Tube Probe to the Higher-Order Acoustic Modes and its Consequences

Autor(en):

Zusammenfassung:
The theoretically derived sensitivity of a standard slit-tube microphone, inserted into a circular pipe with uniform mean flow, to the higher-order acoustic modes downstream of the sound source is discussed. It is found that the sensitivity is different for each mode and is strongly reduced for the higher order modes, especially close to their cut-on frequencies. Furthermore, for pipes of different diameters, the sensitivity is also different. The effect of the slit-tube on the sound pressure spectra and on the sound power determination by the in-duct method is also discussed. It is found that the in-duct method yields sound power levels too small and can be correct only for sound sources with a very special source mode composition.
