Autor(en):

Zusammenfassung:
This paper describes various forms of lift and thrust compounding and. indicates the benefits and conclusions that have arisen from early collaborative studies between WHL and RR. The principal features of a thrust only and thrust and lift compounded helicopter are presented and the advantages which occur (eg increased speed, high speed agility, reduced vibration, improved L/D, ratio, horizontal fuselage attitude and reduced cost of maintenance) are presented in some detail. Some applications of the compound helicopter concept to both new designs and existing helicopters via retrofit are presented. In addition suggestions are made regarding the way forward, in terms of research topics, and a possible proof of concept demonstrator vehicle.
