Titel:

The Lifting-Lines Method - An Efficient Tool for Calculating Unsteady Aerodynamic Forces on Lifting Surfaces

Zusammenfassung:
The lifting-lines method has been developed as a straightforward generalization of the well-known Weissinger method for calculating lift distribution on planar lifting surfaces. The method itself is a KernelFunction method in which the pressure difference is assumed in form of a linear combination of Jacobi polynomials. After applying the Galerkin scheme chordwise a set of one-dimensional integral equations is obtained. This set is equivalent to the one resulting from properly distributed acceleration potential doublet lines and also another lines properly distributed on which the boundary condition for normal velocity has to be satisfied. There exists a unique relation between the strength of doublet lines and the coefficients of an expansion for the pressure difference. In the case of control surfaces and tabs the liftinglines method enables correction of the -numerical solution by using known twodimensional solutions in the vicinity of control surface edges. This procedure does not affect the boundary condition but only the numerical solution itself and, therefore, additional computing time required is negligible. A number of numerical tests were performed for various lifting surfaces configurations showing that the present method is superior to the Doublet-Lattice method in terms of computational time for both planar and nonplanar surfaces.
