Calculation of Pressure Distribution on Two-Dimensional Wing in Unsteady Subsonic Flow with Separation Bubble Using Kernel Function Method

A simple analytical method has been utilized to model separated flow about two dimensional oscillating airfoil, with the motivation to provide a tool for parametric studies associated with motion induced aerodynamic buffeting load in subsonic flow. The pressure difference between the undisturbed flow and the flow in the region of separation, is assumed to be known a priori. It is also assumed that the separation and reattachment points do not move along the airfoil with the oscillation. Two sets of integral equations for the dowrNash and pressure distribution can then be foraulated to form the governing equations, employing distribution of acceleration potential dipole and velocity potential source distribution, on the lifting surface and the separated region of the lifting surface, respectively. The analysis then follows a conventional kernel function procedure of Laschka. The unknown distributions of pressure and downwash jumps across the lifting surface will be represented by series expansion, and the resulting equations are solved by collocation technique. The method has been validated through- comparison with unsteady attached flow cases. For the separated bubble cases, comparison with related work and some experimental data indicates encouraging agreement .
