Titel:

Compact High Performance Heat Exchangers for ICR Aircraft Gas Turbines

Autor(en):

Zusammenfassung:
On the basis of the shrouded propfan engine, the principles of the intercooled / recuperated (ICR) gas turbine cycle are described. Design considerations for the intercooler that led to the selection of two plate-fin matrices and to the proposal of a possible matrix arrangement are given. After introducing the design objectives, a comparison of circular turbe arrangements with a profile tube matrix shows slight advantages in favour of the former layout as far as the matrix net weight and the gas-side frontal area are concerned, whereas the profile tube matrix is clearly superior regarding installation. Physical aspects influencing the matrix selection for the intercooler are presented.
