Titel:

Advantage of Counter-Rotation for Lew-Speed Fan Drive Turbine Applications

Zusammenfassung:
Counter-rotating turbines for low speed fan drive applications have considerable advantages over conventional configurations. The study shows that counter rotating turbines with the same number of cascades (twice the number of rotors) and the same aerofoil exit conditions (Mach-number level , flow angle) can generate the same specific work as a single-rotating turbine but with half the circumferential speed . For correlating turbine efficiencies with the load factor H/U2 the value of the counter-rotating turbine has to be corrected by the factor of four . The efficiency can be increased due to lower rotor deflections which can be obtained as the circumferential speed is not limited by stress requirements.
