Zusammenfassung:
The 3D viscous flow fields of high pressure ratio backswept impellers are studied experimentally and numerically by using laser velocimetry and advanced 3D viscous codes. The impellers were designed by a CAD method. Both the experimental and theoretical approaches reveale comparatively smooth impeller discharge velocity profiles differing widely from the well-known jet/wake type flow pattern. The codes are used for detailed flow field studies, i. e., secondary flows, vortex motion, tip clearance effects and wake development are analyzed. The comparisons between experimental and numerical results indicate that tip clearance effects should be properly modeled to predict the impeller flow pattern correctly and that an optimum shape of the rotor exit flow pattern can be obtained hy controlling the swirling vortex motion.
