Titel:

Present and Future Situation of the Pollution in the Atmosphere: A Framework for Commercial Aircraft Development

Zusammenfassung:
Historically, 3 "levels" of atmospheric pollution were successively established: - for a long time there has been an important concern on local pollution, that can affect human health, animals, vegetation, materials; - during the 70s, it that air pollution can long distances and forests; has been established be transported upon damage lakes and - since the beginning of the 8Os, there has been a growing awareness to global atmospheric pollution: ozone layer depletion and global warming, that can change climate and threaten life on Earth. Emissions from aircraft are a small part of total emissions from all sources on either a national or international scale (i.e. around 1 % or less of CO, HC, Nox and S02 emissions, less than 5 % of C02 emissions). Compared to car emissions, aircraft emissions are relatively small: in terms of pollutants quantity per passenger, a jet plane emits only about half CO and HC than a car with a catalytic converter and a little more Nox; amounts of C02 emitted are similar. However, the situation may grow worse if no action is taken. Strict standards and controls are being enforced to reduce the other sources of air pollution, so that the percentage contribution of aircraft sources is growing, at a time when air traffic is expected to increase. Moreover, aircraft contribution can be greater on regional and local scales than on national scale and airports might become growing air pollution sources. Substantial reductions of CO and HC emitted by aircraft engines have already been achieved. However, it is necessary to progress further by reducing Nox and C02 emissions. Traffic limitation might even be considered in certain airports.
