For three sizes of commuter aircraft for the next decade (30, 60, 90 seaters), different types of propulsion are considered: - modern propellers: 0.5 < M < 0.6 - open rotor systems: 0.7 < M < 0.78 - ducted propeller: M = 0.78 - turbofan: M = 0.78 Requirements are defined for each aircraft category and complying with these requirements an optimization is done to minimize the operating cost. The results are provided versus number of seats and range.
