Direct Measurement of Laminar Instability Amplification Factors in Flight

Zusammenfassung:
An instrumentation system and methodology have been developed to measure the physical parameters of Tollmien-Schlichting (TS) waves on a wing of an aircraft in flight. The measured parametcrs will be used for purposes of comparison with a laminar stability analysis code. If the flight program is successful, the wing will be removed from the test aircraft with all included instrumentation, and installed in the Dutch-German wind tunnel (DNW). Additional data will be obtained to compare the flight environment with the wind tunnel environment. The measurement system and methodology are described in this paper.
