The subject is introduced by a discussion on the characteristics of varying orbits and the changes in performance and payloads associated with attaining these orbits. Methods of injection are then discussed; reference being made to part-coasting, continuous thrusting and part-aeroplane-borne trajectories. Control and guidance methods are surveyed and environmental problems imposed on payloads during injection outlined.
