Titel:

Adaptive Autopilot and Command Signal Limiting- Two Advanced Techniques for Control of Supersonic Aircraft

Zusammenfassung:
As military aircraft have achieved higher speeds and altitudes, the autopilot has become increasingly important. Supersonic aircraft requires artificial stability augmentation as well as other functions for assisting the pilot in increasing mission efficiency. The conventional autopilots which were developed for early supersonic aircraft became to complex. They became less reliable when the need for correct autopilot operation was becoming more vital. Two things were needed: 1. a simpler and better way of achieving high performance and greater reliability; 2. some positive way of insuring aircraft safety while allowing use of the full maneuvering capability of the aircraft. This paper is concerned with particular solutions for each of these problems: 1. The Adaptive Autopilot - a nonlinear system with learning ability; 2. Command Signal Limiting - a continuous electronic limiting system.
