After discussing the points which are essential for a good air service, the reasons are given why the advancement of the aera of the turbine in civil aviation is comparatively slow. The prospects for the turbo-propeller and the turbo-jet aeroplanes are mentioned and Douglas projects in this field, a turbo-propeller version of the DC-7 and the design of a large jet engine aeroplane, the DC-8, are disclosed.
