Zusammenfassung:
An eddy current method has been developed for quantitatively determining the thickness and separation of metal plates in multi-layered structures. The technique is useful for detecting and characterizing hidden corrosion in aircraft lap splices. We use swept-frequency (1 kHz-1 MHz) eddy current measurements of the impedance of an air-core coil. Inversion of the experimental data is accomplished by least-squares fitting of model results to data. The technique has been verified on simulated corrosion and samples corroded in the laboratory. Future work is being directed toward developing pulsed eddy current technique for performing these measurements with a faster, portable instrument.
