Zusammenfassung:
Hybrid Laminar Flow seems to be the most promising drag reduction technique for the next generation of transport aircraft. This new technology will have a large impact on many of the current standards of the industry. Therefore it is necessary to assess as soon as possible the implications of this new technology. This is why a programme was launched in 1987 by Airbus Industrie, in close cooperation with ONERA and DLR, aimed at the demonstration in flight of the hybrid laminar flow concept. The first step of this programme is the A320 laminar fin demonstrator which will provide Airbus Industrie with the necessary background assessment of aerodynamic, systems and operational requirements for further applications. After a general presentation of this Airbus long term research strategy, the paper will focus on the A320 laminar fin programme. The current progress of the programme is given as well as detailed results concerning the aerodynamic aspects. The wind tunnel model, its equipment and the suction device are also presented.
